Shortcoming in implementation of grant projects of NGOs: Chief of Council
Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec. 23/ Trend , A. Huseynbala/ There have been shortcomings in the implementation of the grant projects by the NGOs in Azerbaijan, MP Ayaz Guliyev, chief of the NGO Support Council at the Presidential Administration of Azerbaijan, said to reporters.
Though 365 NGOs applied for a grant in 2008, the proposals of only 190 of them were accepted. About AZN 1,220,000 finance were provided.
The budget of the Council will total to AZN 2,750,000 in 2009.
Guliyev said the great part of the finance provided for the Council will be spent to fund NGO projects. "The great part of funds provided for NGOs was spent on projects. However, there are some NGOs who spent state funds as their own funds. We will hold training for them and try to eliminate violations. The NGOs who do not observe it will be deprived of grants for two years," Guliyev said.
There are over 2,000 NGOs operating in Azerbaijan.
