Azerbaijan’s National TV Council to up its activity to protect native language on ether: Re-elected Chairman

Azerbaijan, Baku, Jan. 23 /corr. Trend J.Babayeva / Nushravan Maharramli, who was re-elected as the chairman of the National Television and Radio Council of Azerbaijan, said that the Council's activity to protect native language on ether will be strengthened during the next years. 

"Council will mainly continue its work in accordance with the legislation on the protection of national waves from foreign influence," Maharramli told Trend on Jan. 23. 

At today's session, the Council made a decision re-electing Maharramli as the chairman of this organization. Maharramli, who was re-appointed as the Council's member for six years upon the order by the President of Azerbaijan, was re-elected as the chairman of the organization by the majority of the votes of the Council members.

Maharramli became member of the Council in 2003.

The Council will act against the popularization of show-business and single-type telecasts in the television channels and will support broadcasting of balanced, qualitative telecasts, said the chairman.


Projects on transfer of the television channels to the digital system will be realized, he said. Chairman of the Council did not exclude opening of new television channels.

The most memorized amongst the decisions of the Council over the last six years became the prohibition of the broadcasting of foreign television channels and radio stations on the national frequencies, and also prohibition of the broadcasting of films in the foreign languages. During this period, the Council prolonged the period of the licenses for the broadcasting of all television and radio channels, which function in Azerbaijan.
