Azerbaijan, Baku, March 13 / Trend , K. Zarbaliyeva/

Three judges were fired for corruption in Azerbaijan, a government report introduced to parliament said.

The report said 40 judges have been held accountable for violations and bureaucracy.

Six judges have been demoted.

The U.S. State Department issued a report on human rights in Azerbaijan in 2008.

Corruption still persists in courts and law enforcement agencies, according to the report.

However, Supreme Court Judge Ramiz Rzayev said courts are not corrupt at a recent press conference.

Corrupt judges are unacceptable in the justice system, he said.

Rzayev said judges should serve as an example through their work, behavior and lifestyle.

Thirty-two judges were dismissed in 2007-2008.
