Projects of NGOs losing competition reconsidered in Azerbaijan

The Appeal Commission of the Council for State Support to NGOs under the President of Azerbaijan recommended the Secretariat of the Council to reconsider the level of experts of the project of one NGO.

During the meeting of the Council, the complaints by the eight NGOs, which are dissatisfied with the results of finance competition announced in 2009, were considered, the press service of the Secretariat of the Council told Trend on April 17.

More than 30 NGOs made complaints with the requirement to reconsider the projects submitted by them.

Some 569 NGO's introduced projects for the finance competition. As many as 357 of the NGOs took part in the competition for the first time. As a result of the competition, 226 projects were approved and AZN 1.848 million will be provided for them.

As many as 365 organizations introduced projects to the council in 2008; 190 won the competition.

The Commission considered the complaint by the Council of Education of Azerbaijan, public union Education Center "XXI Century", Society of Internally Displaced Persons, Society of Young Scientists, Graduate Students and Masters of Azerbaijan, Association "Yayım", Council "Təhsil" ("Education"), National Association of Parents and Teachers of Azerbaijan and public union Harmonious Educational Development.

"After discussion, the Commission recommended the Secretariat of the Council to reconsider the project of Society of Young Scientists, Graduate Students and Masters of Azerbaijan, while the Council left the decisions other seven projects as previous," the report says.

Complaints by other 29 NGOs received by the Secretariat of the Council will be discussed at the next meetings of the Appeal Commission.
