Number of drug addicts up in Azerbaijani region bordering with Iran

A number of drug addicts increased in Azerbaijan's Lankaran region (270 km of Baku) bordering with Iran.

"Some 41 drug addicts were registered in the drug dispensary of Lankaran for six months and this figure is by 16 people more than the same period of 2008," Head Doctor of the Clinic Vugar Aliyev told Trend on July 6.

He said one woman was registered over six months amongst the drug addicts. In this period, some 23 people have received patient, 54 people - out-patient treatment. Currently, 7 people have been involved in in-patient and 11 - outpatient treatment. Another 384 drug addicts undergo preventive treatment.

The clinic recorded 227 people who are suffering from alcoholism and nine people suffering from substance abuse. The head doctor did not exclude that the actual number of addicts is much higher than the statistics.
