Participation of the Abu Bakr Mosque's Imam was required in the Forest Brothers' trail which took place in Azerbaijan on July 27.
At the beginning of the trail, the court gave the accused Khalig Valimatov the floor, who said that he would give testimony, when the Imam of the Abu Bakr Mosque Gamat Suleymanov will be called to the trail as injured. Valimatov made it clear that his testimony is related to Gamat Suleymanov to whom he will give questions.
Another accused Kamran Bozorgi did not plead guilty on the facts of which he was charged. He said Gamat Suleymanov was responsible for the arrest of 16 of the 26 defendants.
"His religious beliefs, as well as his calling us as "khavarij" ("the dogs of Hell") caused a conflict between us. However, I did not intend to kill him out of revenge. I would do it if I wanted, because I was one of those who often came to him in the room. I did not participate in meetings and group meetings under the name of "Guba Jamaati" ("People of Guba"). We assembled only due to our religious beliefs and were engaged in only a divine service," said the accused.

On Aug. 17, 2008, a terrorism action took place at the Juma Mosque, known as Abu Bakr, located in the Narimanov district during an evening prayer, which killed two and wounded 19 others.
Under the prosecution, Azerbaijani citizens Elnur Bashirov, Gudrat Malikov, Khalid Valimatov, Ulfat Malikov, Vahid Asadov, Zabit Shikhbabaev, Fariz Mammadov, Samir Babayev, Anar Valimatov, Rasim Isgandarov, Elshan Allahverdiyev, Rafig Aghajanov, Taleh Maharramov, Teymur Narimanov, Bozorgi Kamran, Azar Bakhishov, Musa Orujov, Alexander Nuraliev, Mamed Mamedov, Elkhan Osmanov, Zaur Dzhafarov, Rufat Rzayev, Sardar Bunyatov, Russian citizen Magomed Isaev, Turkish citizens Yamin Ali and Özdemir Ergin entered into a criminal conspiracy with Ilgar Mollachiev with "Abdulmajid" nickname and his brother-in-law Samir Mehdiev with "Suleyman" nickname in the Zagatala region. They aimed to organize the riots and to hold anti-governmental action in Azerbaijan. The criminals purchased arms whose sources are unknown for the investigation and committed a blast in the Abu Bakr Mosque in Baku.
