Members of criminal group accused of drug trafficking from Iran to Azerbaijan have been sentenced. 

The Azerbaijani Serious Crimes Court sentenced Intizar Hamidov and Rasul Faracov to 14 years imprisonment and Telman Imanov to 12 years. The criminal case on another member of this group, Adil Yusubov, was passed to another court hearing due his illness, the Court told Trend on Aug.6.

The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry seized 40 kg of hashish, smuggled from Iran to Azerbaijan by the group. 

The group members in agreement with Iranian citizens smuggled a great deal of hashish, hidden from the checkpoints, from Iran to Azerbaijan. Upon the agreement reached earlier, Iranian citizens passed the smuggled drug to Intizar Hamidov on Oct. 9, 2008. In his turn Hamidov hided it in the Mashkhan village nearby Astara region.

Hamidov passed the drug to Imanov, who sold it for $42,000 to Yusubov.

The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry arrested Yusubov and seized 40 kg of hashish from his car during the raid on Oct.10.

The group members were accused of Articles 206.3.2 (smuggling narcotics by a group of person in preliminary agreement), 234.4.1 (illegal purchase, keeping and sale of drugs by group of people in agreement or organized group) and 234.4.3 (illegal purchase, keeping and sale of drugs in big amounts) of the Azerbaijani Criminal Code.
