A mosque is razed in the Azerbaijani city of Ganja due to its illegal activities, Press Secretary of the State Committee for Religious Organizations, Yagut Aliyeva said to Trend on Sept. 17.
"The religious community of the mosque, serving in the Albanian church, has not passed state registration at the State Committee. Despite repeated requests, they have not been registered as a community and operated illegally," said the spokeswoman.
Aliyeva said the imam of the mosque has not been formally appointed by the Caucasus Muslims Board.
The mosque, located in Ganja, operating as the Albanian church earlier, was closed on Sept. 16.
Some time ago in Baku, the Our Prophet Muhammad Mosque and the mosque in the Oil Rocks field were razed. Recently, it has been decided to demolish the Fatmayi-Zahra Mosque in the Yeni Guneshli settlement and close the Shahidlar Mosque.
