Azerbaijani ombudsman office organizes "hot line" for children's problems

A 24-hour service of "916" hotline, crated with the support and technical assistance of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, will receive appeals in connection with the problems of children living in towns and regions, rural districts of the country, as well as children of refugees and internally displaced persons, poor families, and children deprived of parental care, being at children's institutions, including street children, abused children and children whose rights have been violated, the ombudsman office told Trend News on Nov. 2.

The Azerbaijani ombudsman office has organized "hot line" for children's problems.

A 24-hour service of  "916" hotline, crated with the support and technical assistance of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, will receive appeals in connection with the problems of children living in towns and regions, rural districts of the country, as well as children of refugees and internally displaced persons, poor families, and children deprived of parental care, being at children's institutions, including street children, abused children and children whose rights have been violated, the ombudsman office told Trend on Nov. 2.

A letter has been sent to the relevant government bodies, ministries and committees, city and regional executive authorities to inform them about opening of the "hot line" service at all city and regional education departments, health, youth centers and sports, social welfare, police departments, educational institutions, schools, centers for children's creativity and youth resources, children's homes and boarding schools, cultural facilities, including libraries, as well as institutions where children live and have problems with the law.

2009 was declared the Year of the Child in Azerbaijan in connection with the 50th anniversary of the Declaration on Children's Rights and the 20th anniversary of the UN Convention on Children's Rights. Upon the Ombudsman's initiative, on Oct. 20 the month on children's rights under the motto "Let us hear the children, ensure their participation" began in the country.
