The number of mistakes made by football referees increased this year, the Azerbaijani Professional Football League (PFL) reported.
"During this year's championship the referees have made many mistakes. But they were not made purposely," PFL President Ramin Musayev told Trend yesterday.
Two referees Babak Guliyev and Anar Niyazov were suspended earlier after fixing the results of a match with two clubs during the Unibank Premier League 2009-2010.
AFFA will also punish FIFA Fariz Yusifov. Yusifov made a number of serious mistakes while judging a match in Sumgayit in which the Standard club lost 3:4.
Musayev said referees in Azerbaijan need to improve.
One referee was asked why he does not run on the field, Musayev said.
He answered: "If the players do not run, then why should I run?"
