Azerbaijani investigator accused of corruption recalls cassation appeal

The court received an official request from Baku Prosecutor Office Investigation Department ex-former Investigator Mahir Nagiyev to recall his cassation appeal. Nagiyev is accused of bribery and misusing his authority, the Supreme Court told Trend News.

A former investigator charged of corruption in Azerbaijan has recalled his cassation appeal.

The court received an official request from Baku Prosecutor Office Investigation Department ex-former Investigator Mahir Nagiyev to recall his cassation appeal. Nagiyev is accused of bribery and misusing his authority, the Supreme Court told Trend .

Based on his request, the court decided to cease his cassation appeal.

An investigation by the Prosecutor General's Office Anti-Corruption Department revealed that Nagiyev took bribes from the accused Baba Mahmudzade and Ehtiram Ahmedov, who attempted to avoid arrest.

Nagiyev took as a bribe a 0.12-hectare land plot in the Yasamal district of Baku, which belonged to Anatoly Sinitzsin, husband of Natalya Sinitzin, who was wanted in this case.

Nagiyev was accused of Articles 311.3.2 (Taking Bribes), 309.1 (Actions Taken by a Senior Officer Abusing Office) and 308 (Misusing Authorities) of the Azerbaijani Criminal Code and sentenced to five years imprisonment.
