A trial over municipality chairman accused of corruption crimes has been launched in Azerbaijan.
Today during the trial over former chairman of municipality in Archivan village of Astara region Mirzaga Nuriyev held in the Heinous Crimes Court, the accused plead not guilty.
A judicial review is scheduled for Jan.15.
As a chairman of the municipality Nuriyev, exceedinghis official power dealt with illegal sale of land of villagers. He also misappropriated funds allocated to the municipality for reconstruction of roads in the village.
Nuriyev was arrested by employees of the Department on Combating Corruption under the Prosecutor General's Office in September 2009.
He is charged with Article 179.3.2 (assignment or waste insignificant size), 308.1. (abusing official powers), 309.1 (excess of official powers) and 313 (service forgery) of the Criminal Code.
