The Azerbaijani Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry held regular monitoring of pollution in the transboundary Kur and Araz Rivers during the first decade of January, the ministry told Trend today.

The monitoring found that phenol and copper are strong pollutants. Biogenic substances exceeded the norm at points where the river is subjected to transboundary contamination in Georgia and Armenia. During the first decade of January, water consumption in the Kur River decreased by 6 cubic meters per second to 191 cubic meters per second.

Water consumption in the Araz River was 82.4 cubic meters per second.

The water's oxygen regime at all points remained at the corridor of 6.32 to7.54 milligrams per liter.
