According to a member of the Pardon Commission under Azerbaijani President, on the eve of the Novruz Holiday, signing an order for pardoning prisoners is not expected.

"In connection with Azerbaijani President's signing a pardon agreement in December 2009 on the eve of the World Azerbaijanis Solidarity Day, such an order is not expected now," member of the Pardon Commission, MP Vagif Samedoglu told Trend .

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed an order to pardon a number of persons in custody Dec.25, 2009. Order referred to 99 prisoners.

According to 46 pardon orders, signed since 1994, 4,957 people were freed from punishment. 14 of them were signed by Ilham Aliyev and 32 by the late President Heydar Aliyev. Eight acts of amnesty, signed until now, covered 40,000 prisoners.

"Despite the members of the commission received new applications for pardon, the discussions on them were not carried out. In addition, the commission does not plan to hold a meeting by Novruz holiday. Therefore, signing a new amnesty act is unrealistic," the MP said.
