Azerbaijani ombudsman intends to improve protection of citizens' rights

The re-elected Azerbaijani Ombudsman Elmira Suleymanova has promised to protect all constitutional rights of the Azerbaijani citizens regardless of religious or national affiliation, Suleymanova told journalists today.

The re-elected Azerbaijani Ombudsman Elmira Suleymanova has promised to protect all constitutional rights of the Azerbaijani citizens regardless of religious or national affiliation, Suleymanova told journalists today.

"Naturally, there were some shortcomings during our activities," Suleymanova said.

She was re-elected to the post of ombudsman at today's meeting of Parliament with 106 votes.

Earlier President Ilham Aliyev sent to parliament a list of three candidates in accordance with Article 109.14 of the Constitution.

The candidates included the current ombudsman Elmira Suleymanova, Head of the Department for Human Rights and Public Relations under the Justice Ministry Faig Gurbanov and the National Program Officer Human Rights Project of UN in Azerbaijan Teymur Melikaslanov.
