The Education Ministry of Azerbaijan, Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Population, State Committee on Family, Women and Children, and UNICEF signed a joint memorandum of cooperation on the project "Establishment of a mechanism to transfer children to families and providing them with alternative care."

The project, carried out under the State program for the transfer of children from public child care institutions to families (deinstitutionalization) and alternative care in the Azerbaijan Republic (2006-2015), will be held in two pilot districts of Baku - Surakhani and Azizbayov, said Education Minister Misir Mardanov at the signing ceremony.

During the past two years, under the program of deinstitutionalization, nine of 55boarding schools of Azerbaijan have been transformed into centers of special concern.

"The number of children receiving education and living in these boarding schools, over the past two years has decreased from 14,389 to 10,055," Mardanov said.

Chairman of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children, Hijran Huseynova, said at the signing ceremony that special attention must be paid to monitoring to implement the project efficiently.

Labor and Social Protection of Population Minister, Fizuli Alekperov, noted the importance of the project and said that its implementation will provide additional support for needy families.

"In this respect, the Heydar Aliyev Foundation renovated boarding schools, where children from poor families reside," the Minister said.
