The specializations in Azerbaijani universities were decreased by 70 percent in 2009.

In 2009, number of specialties - 515, on which staff training has been conducted, reduced, and amounted to 150 in a new classification of specialties' group, the Cabinet of Ministers said in its  report to Azerbaijani Parliament for 2009.

It was conducted on the basis of obligations undertaken by the government under the Bologna Process and in order to ensure fulfillment of the President's order "On approval of the State Program on reforms in the higher education system of Azerbaijan Republic for 2009-2013,"

"In accordance with it new state standards for training bachelors have been approved," said in the report.

According to the report, at present, a new classification of Master specialties (program) is under preparation.  

Currently, Azerbaijan has 51 higher schools (36- state, 15 private), which conducts undergraduate educational programs of higher education.
