On March 30, the American Center, located at the University of Foreign Languages of Azerbaijan, hosted an online discussion on the topic of leadership amongst youth. The discussion was attended by the Azerbaijani students, senior pupils from the U.S., as well as representatives of NGOs.

"We are pleased that today the American Center again plays an important role in informing the Azerbaijani students, allowing them to discuss with their peers outside Azerbaijan different ideas and suggestions on how to solve the problems facing the global society," said the charge d'affaires of the U.S. Embassy Donald Lu at the American Center at the University of Foreign Languages.

Azerbaijan is one of the nine countries participating in the global online dialogue "Pulse of the World", which was inspired by the U.S. President Barack Obama in his speech "A new beginning" in Cairo. Besides Azerbaijan, the initiative involves Tajikistan, Morocco, India, Indonesia, Jordan, Brazil, Senegal and Kenya.

The Global Pulse is to listen to each other and work together to achieve a better future, said Donald Lu. Global problems require global solutions, and Obama set a task to look for fresh ideas with partners around the world."
The Global Pulse 2010 is a three-day virtual event, being aimed at bringing together thousands of people from the whole world to discuss the most pressing problems in the world and forecasting solutions.

In addition to Baku, similar events were held Tuesday in the regional centers in Shirvan, Imishli, Sumgait, Guba, Gazakh, Sheki, Ganja and Zagatala regions of Azerbaijan.

The Global Pulse 2010 brings together leaders in certain spheres to create new relations or strengthen existing ties, as well as to inform about the major themes and emerging ideas in certain spheres, said Lu.

He said many aspects of global politics affect the values of democracy. But as the democracy is a very broad concept, we decided to concentrate on the development of civil society, youth issues and the role of women and girls in society, said Lu.
