Graduates, who were freed from the final examinations, of the disaster zones that will be provided with attests until June 24-25, Azerbaijani Education Minister Misir Mardanov said.

"The ministry has already conducted the final exams in secondary schools in two regions of Azerbaijan. In one of the regions, the graduates showed results exceeding last year's," Mardanov said.

In recent weeks, floods occurred in 40 districts of Azerbaijan due to rise in Kur River and rainfalls. As a result of the disaster, about 20,000 houses were flooded, more than 300 destroyed, 2,000 became unsafe and 70,000 hectares of cultivated land left under water.

The final exams were launched in the Azerbaijani secondary schools June 3. Ninth-grade students take exams on two, and 11th grade students - on eight subjects.

"The distinguished students will be awarded with gold medals from them next academic year," Mardanov said. "We do not have time for their release this year, because the rules are not ready. The holders of medals will have to pass entrance examinations in accordance with general rules."
