The mechanism of "traffic lights", to be used in connection with the names in Azerbaijan, will not apply to representatives of other nationalities residing in the country.
"Today, more than half a million of names, used in Azerbaijan, have been studied. The principle of 'traffic lights' will not apply to citizens of Azerbaijan - Russian and Belarusians, Ukrainians, Tatars, Lezgins, Georgians and representatives of other nations. It does not deal with them because they have their own traditional system of naming. The new mechanism will apply only to the names of the Azerbaijanis," the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences committee member, MP Nizami Jafarov, told Trend.

Jafarov said that the system "traffic lights" is a technical methodology for naming.
"There are names for which green light should be lit. For example, there are no mistakes in such names as Ali, Hasan, Mammad, Anar. This names are native for us. There are names for which we turn on a yellow light. This controversial names. That is, the name can be given, and can not be given. There are traditional and new names. For example, the name Amalia. This is a traditional name. This name is not easy to take, but it is difficult to reject. There will be such names in future. Someone will name his/her child James. The child's name may be of foreign origin in mixed marriages. "Yellow light" will be used for these names. "Red Light" will be applied to those names that are completely wrong, " Jafarov said.
