Bundesliga coaches clearly back Bayern Munich to retain the German league title, a German Press Agency dpa survey showed Tuesday, DPA reported.

Fifteen of Bayern's 17 rivals tip the Bavarians to win the league which begins on August 20.

Only Werder Bremen's Thomas Schaaf and Marco Kurz of newly-promoted Kaiserslautern did not explicitly tip Bayern.

Schaaf named no other team, while Kurz said the title would go to either Bremen, Schalke 04 or Bremen.

Bayern's Dutch coach Louis van Gaal did not name any teams but said he felt his side was "further" than last season when it won the league and cup double and reached the final of the Champions League.

"I think we can take another step," he said.

Former Bayern coach Felix Magath of Schalke said the title favourites "are always Bayern because they have the best squad."

Schaaf meanwhile said: "There are a number of teams in question. There will be one or two clubs who will do better."

Bayer Leverkusen's Jupp Heynckes, another former Bayern coach, agreed that Bayern are "always favourites" but added that Schalke "had bought well" on the transfer market.
