The Education Department of Baku delivered a list of vacant teaching places in secondary schools to the Ministry of Education, the Education Department strategic analysis, planning and personnel management sector director Bahman Nabiyev told Trend.

"According to the secondary school vacancies in Baku schools, there is a need for teachers of physical culture, basic military training, as well as professional staff on computer science," Nabiyev said.

He said that there is no need for primary school and Russian language teachers in Baku schools this year.

"Baku Education Department discussed work of teachers, the possibility to work part-time in neighboring schools with the principals," Nabiyev said.

The Azerbaijani Ministry will announce the vacancies in secondary schools of Azerbaijan within the next week.

Last year, the Ministry of Education held a tender for the replacement of 365 vacancies in secondary schools for 2009/2010 academic year. Abour 284 people of 1,044 applicants were appointed teachers. About 81 places left vacant.

About 170,000 teachers work in 4,552 public schools in Azerbaijan. More than 1,420 pupils study there. About 1,005 teachers work in 17 private schools.
