Azerbaijani rower makes Olympic quarterfinals

Seventeen-year-old Azerbaijani rower Radoslav Kutsev took part in the slalom event yesterday at the Olympic Games in Singapore, the Azerbaijani National Rowing Federation told Trend.

Seventeen-year-old Azerbaijani rower Radoslav Kutsev took part in the slalom event yesterday at the Olympic Games in Singapore, the Azerbaijani National Rowing Federation told Trend.

Kutsev made the quarterfinals, and will now face off against the event's seven strongest rowers.

During the initial test race, Kutsev finished seventh among 16 participants with a result of 1.57 seconds. Kutsev then left far behind Armenian rower Edgar Babayan in the first round.

Kutsev proceeded directly to the third round, where he beat Polish rower Patrick Falcon. He will now face Ukrainian Anatoly Melnik in the quarterfinals at 12:20 Baku time today.

Kutsev lost the canoe event in the quarterfinals on Aug. 21-22, finishing sixth. Cuban Caserio Sardenas became Olympic champion.
