The Azerbaijani Press Council starts establishing the Elderly Journalists' Majlis (council). The council decided to create the Elderly Journalists' Majlis at the meeting on Sept.23.

Press Council Chairman Aflatun Amashov said that one of the responsibilities of today's press is to use the potential of individuals with extensive experience in journalism.

"From the first day of is establishment, the Press Council was close to them, studied and applied their experience, spared no effort in providing care and assistance in solving their problems. The council held the evenings of memory and jubilee events to this end. We tried to systematize these traditions, and therefore felt it necessary to create the Majlis. We believe that establishment of an organization of elder journalists will be an important," Amashov said.

The member of the Press Council Board and head of the Azerbaijani State Support for Media Development Fund under the Azerbaijani President, Vugar Safarli, considered it important to assist the Council in creating an organization of elderly journalists for two reasons. "First, it is very important to use the knowledge and experience of these people. On the other hand, their active social activities and, the fact that they are not forgotten, will serve as an example for society," Safarli said.

The participants of the meeting also noted the importance of creating such a structure.

The meeting set up a group of seven people headed by Distinguished Journalist Yusif Karimov for coordination and preparation of documents to create the Majlis.
