Azerbaijan to host Caspian Sea Week

Azerbaijani Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources in connection with the World Sea Day will conduct works to enlighten the public about the necessity to protect the sea and its biological resources, the Ministry's press release says.

In connection with the "Week of Caspian Sea," Sept. 27-30 along the 955-kilometer coastline of the Caspian Sea - in the Nabran settlement, cities of Sumgait, Baku, Neftchala, Lankaran and other cities community work days will be held with the participation of citizens, representatives of local executive bodies and education institutions, and also the roundtables will be organized.

Within the activities it is also planned to inform students and the media outlets representatives on progress made in Azerbaijan on increasing bioresources.

World Sea Day is marked since 1978 under the decision of the 10th Session of the Assembly of the Intergovernmental Maritime Consultative Organization in one of days of the last week of September.

World Sea Day aims to draw international attention the fact how overfishing, water pollution and global warming cause irreparable damage to the seas and oceans.
