The Azerbaijani Press Council will apply to the law enforcement authorities with a request to investigate the activities of the newspapers "Mehkeme və qanun" ("Court and Law") and "Bizim dovr" ("Our period"). The council adopted the relevant decision at the meeting of the council's commission for consideration of complaints.
The meeting reviewed three complaints against the "Bizim dovr" newspaper. The meeting revealed lack of respect to "Regulation of the professional ethics of journalists in Azerbaijan" in the paper's articles about the Sumgait neuropsychiatric diseases clinic, Sheki city children care center and Mil-Karabakh and Lower Shirvan Collector and others, over which the council had received complaints. The meeting found it necessary to transfer consideration of the issue to the council's commission on combating racketeering journalism. Given the fact that these complaints also should be revised by the law enforcement agencies, it was decided to send these materials to the appropriate authorities.
The commission also revised the complaints of citizens, Zoya Huseynova and Chimnaz Huseynova, against the "Mehkeme və qanun" and revealed this case also should be investigated by the law enforcement agencies. Taking into account all these facts, the commission has decided to transfer the materials to the appropriate authorities.
The meeting discussed a complaint against the newspapers "Azadlıq" and "Rəsmi Azərbaycan". The commission recommended the "Azadlıq" newspaper to keep balance in materials and reflect the opposite side's position in its publications.
The commission decided to transfer consideration of the issue of the "Rəsmi Azərbaycan" newspaper to the council's commission on combating racketeering journalism.
