Azerbaijan, Baku, Nov. 2 / Trend M.Aliyev /
A new list of names will be presented to the Azerbaijani public.
A book consisting of a new list of names and their etymology will be published in Azerbaijan, Director of the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences' (ANAS) IT Institute Rasim Aliguliyev told Trend today. A website will also be established.
Based on the new "traffic light" principle, names corresponding to national, cultural and ideological values will be included in the "green list" and there will be no restrictions on their use. Names that are objectionable, not recommended, or have a negative meaning in foreign languages will be included in the "yellow list." Names of individuals who have committed aggression against the Azerbaijani people, or are insulting in Azerbaijani, will be included in the "red list" and will not be allowed.
To date, only one book, "Adlarimiz" (Our names), written by well-known journalist and writer Osman Mirzoyev, has been dedicated to the etymology of Azerbaijani names.
Aliguliyev said the book will provide information about the meaning of Azerbaijani names, their origin, the number of people bearing these names and the date of the name's first occurrence.
Today, the list is under registration at the Justice Ministry.
He said Azerbaijani citizens complain about having a lack of informational sources on names, as "Adlarimiz" does not cover the entire spectrum of names.
"Today, all registries face the biggest problem which is a lack of books," Aliguliyev said.
