Azerbaijan hosts int’l ecology conference

Baku opened a global scientific and practical conference today on "Youth for Ecological Development."
Great work has been done in Azerbaijan to improve the environment, Azerbaijani Ecology and Natural Resources Minister Huseyngulu Bagirov told journalists today.
"2010 was declared the Year of Ecology in the country as a logical continuation of the current policy, and today everyone is involved in thinking about this problem," Bagirov said.
According to the minister, every citizen should think about what he can do to improve the environment.
"It is very important to define the role of youth in this work," Bagirov said.
"A healthy ecology is a healthy house and healthy country, and as young people are the future of this country, they are participating in this event," Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Intigam Babayev said.
In the framework of the conference, the youth will exchange ideas on protecting the environment and also share their experiences with their foreign colleagues. Babayev added that the conference will inform the international community about ecological work in Azerbaijan.
The conference promotes the participation of young scientists, experts, professionals, businessmen, public organizations and mass media in forming new innovations in the economy and sciences, taking into account current ecological problems today.
The conference, organized by the Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry, Youth and Sports Ministry, Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences and UNICEF, will be attended by young scientists, scholars, undergraduate and graduate students, as well as NGO representatives from the United States, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkey and other countries.
This year was declared the Year of Ecology by President Ilham Aliyev.
