Library of Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy (ADA) will cooperate with the Alexandria Library.

An agreement was reached at a meeting held at Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy by the Director of the Library of Alexandria (Bibliotheca Alexandrina) Ismail Serageldin, ADA said today.

During the two-day visit, the guest will also visit the Suzanne Mubarak School in the Absheron region and the State Family, Women and Children Committee.

His visit agenda also includes a trip to the second largest city of Azerbaijan - Ganja - where he will visit the Agricultural Academy and meet with the institution's leadership.

During the visit, Adviser to the Egyptian President on the Sciences and Education Ismail Serageldin will hold meetings with officials and discuss strengthening cooperation in science and education.

Serageldin within his visit to Azerbaijan discussed prospects for cooperation with the ADA. Rector of ADA Hafiz Pashayev said that educational programs have been implemented for undergraduates and government officials of different ranks by the organization headed by him.

He said the Academy's new library has about a hundred thousand books. It will be the largest foreign-language library in the Caucasus.

Pashayev said the future librarians will be trained and will work closely with the world's leading libraries.

ADA's library will use modern technology (electronic catalogues, information databases, electronic journals and books), and will create the first digital library.
A film about the Diplomatic Academy's new library was demonstrated to guests.

Serageldin expressed satisfaction with the Academy's plans to be expanded and with the intention to create a modern library.

He shared information on topics such as technology used by the world's leading libraries, archiving information, creation of research centers at libraries.

Ancient Egyptian Alexandria Library was built over 2500 years ago. It was regarded as one of the major research centers of its time - particularly Archimedes and Euclid worked on it.

The Egyptian Government granted the special status to the library - its leaders are subordinated personally to the country's President.

The Alexandria University ranked 147th worldwide based on Times ranking 2010. It is regarded as one of the most prestigious universities not only in Egypt, but also in the Middle East.
