Azerbaijan introduced a system allowing to trace the movements of gazelles via satellite, Azerbaijani Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry Spokesman Irada Ibrahimova told Trend on Friday.

The first flock of gazelles on which there have been installed sensors that transmit signals about their location was reintroduced to the Gobustan-Jengichai State Reserve close to the Absheron peninsula within the project on "Protection, reintroduction and revitalization of historic habitat of gazelles on the territory of the Azerbaijan Republic" on Dec.24.

The project provides for the holding of research to address issues such as the necessary supplies of water and fodder for gazelles in arid areas, strengthening the protection of animal populations from poachers and human impacts.

The territory of the Gobustan-Jengichai State Reserve near the Pirekeshkul village of Absheron Peninsula is considered a historical habitat for gazelles. In the future it is planned to resettle here about 150 heads of gazelles, the ministry reported
