The Azerbaijani State Traffic Police Department considers it possible to include the fact of smoking while driving as an administrative offense to the legislation.
Smoking while driving is a problem for road safety, the Head of Public Relations Department of the Azerbaijani Chief State Traffic Police Department Kamran Aliyev told Trend.
He said that the police can not make such a requirement for drivers due to the fact that there is no ban for smoking while driving today.
"If the appropriate changes are made to the legislation, if smoking while driving refers to administrative offenses, we can take measures to prevent such violations. In the future it may be included in the legislation as an administrative offense," Aliyev said.
The fines for some offenses were increased due to making changes and additions to the Administrative Code and Traffic Rules by the Azerbaijani Parliament.
