Representatives of the Azerbaijani Ombudsman revealed shortcomings in the Gakh Region Police Department's detention center, after which an act was drawn up.

Ombudsman Elmira Suleymanova told trend that she appealed to the Interior Ministry's leadership to inspect the shortcomings and eliminate them.

On Suleymanova's instruction, members of the group of the National Preventive Mechanism (NPM) of the Ombudsman and employees of the Sheki Regional Centre visited the detention centers of police departments of the Gakh, Zagatala and Balaken regions.

The group members examined the detention conditions in these institutions and got acquainted with documents confirming the legality of detention. They also conducted interviews with individuals detained there and told them about their rights.

Individuals with whom the Ombudsman's representatives communicated didn't complain about the detention conditions nor was the attitude of the leadership and staff of the institutions towards them criticised.

Leaderships of these institutions were given appropriate recommendations to improve detention conditions.
