Azerbaijan works to employ prisoners
Azerbaijan, Baku, April 26 / Trend K.Zarbaliyeva /
Azerbaijan takes measures to provide prisoners with employment with the support of businesses and correctional facilities, Azerbaijani Penitentiary Service head and Deputy Justice Minister Medet Guliyev told journalists today.
Guliyev said the minister tasked him with this and he has already met with several businessmen.
Products manufactured by prisoners cannot compete at the moment, he said.
"Prisoners might produce something, but the problem is that their products cannot compete," he said.
Guliyev said employing prisoners is needed for their adaptation to society. He stressed that certain programs exist in this area and the ministry seeks for an appropriate mechanism.
Production sites have been established in some prisons, he added.
"Mainly beds and furniture are produced at these sites for the ministry's guards and correctional institutions," Guliyev said.
