Azerbaijani Interior Ministry declares grounds for MPs to receive service weapon

Azerbaijan, Baku, June 9 /Trend, K.Zarbaliyeva/

The Interior Ministry of Azerbaijan announced the grounds, according to which the MPs are permitted to carry a service arm.

To ensure the security of MPs, the Law on status of MP allows to provide them with service arm in accordance with the legislation of Azerbaijan, deputy head of Interior Ministry's press service Ehsan Zahidov told Trend.

The appeal of MPs for provision of duty arm is not always positively resolved, said Zahidov.
Zahidov said the law considers unacceptable to provide arm to previously convicted MPs, the MPs who have not passed the military service, as well as the MPs who are not familiar with the terms of use and carrying of weapons.

"The Interior Ministry has adopted an instruction in connection with the implementation of this law. The public-political and criminal situation in the country is taken into consideration while considering the appeal of MPs for service arm in accordance with legislation and regulations. If the political and criminal situation in the country do not cause the necessity to issue arm to MP, then the service arm is not issued to the MPs," said the MP.

Today, the state and law-enforcement agencies fully protect the safety of all citizens, including MPs, and there is no reason for concern, said Zahidov.

In Azerbaijan, the State sufficiently protects the society and citizens, MP Aydin Mirzazade told Trend. He therefore saw no need to apply for a service weapon.

MPs Igbal Aghazadeh and Fazil Mustafa said that they appealed to the Interior Ministry to receive a service weapon, but they were refused to give weapon.
The Ministry did not satisfy their appeal because of the lack of necessity.
