According to amendments that are proposed to the Law on Psychiatry mentally ill peoples will be given an opportunity to meet with the Ombudsman, representatives of religion and attend religious meetings to protect their rights.

The rights of mentally disabled people will increase in Azerbaijan.

According to amendments that are proposed to the Law on Psychiatry mentally ill peoples will be given an opportunity to meet with the Ombudsman, representatives of religion and attend religious meetings to protect their rights.

These amendments to the law were discussed at a meeting of the Parliamentary Social Policy Committee today.

As the committee's deputy chairman Musa Guliyev said the amendments correspond to the World Health Organization's normative acts on psychiatry.

Under the amendments, only professional psychologists must diagnose mentally ill peoples.

In general, it is envisaged to make 36 amendments to 20 items of the law.

The bill was submitted to the parliament for discussion.
