Baku street opens in Rotterdam on eve of National Salvation Day (PHOTO)

On the eve of Azerbaijan's national holiday - the National Salvation Day, in the Netherlands, in one of the streets of Rotterdam, a ceremonial event was conducted, dedicated to the new street name - Baku street - and the opening of the inquiry plank devoted to Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijani Embassy in the Netherlands told Trend.

On the eve of Azerbaijan's national holiday - the National Salvation Day, in the Netherlands, in one of the streets of Rotterdam, a ceremonial event was conducted, dedicated to the new street name - Baku street - and the opening of the inquiry plank devoted to Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijani Embassy in the Netherlands told Trend.

The event was conducted with the support of the Azerbaijani Embassy in the Netherlands, the Congress of Azerbaijanis of the Benelux countries and Dutch friends of Azerbaijan Society.

At the opening of the event, the head of Hoogvliet department of Rotterdam welcomed participants and provided information about Baku, said that the existence of the Baku street in Rotterdam is a good example of the fact that the capital of Azerbaijan occupies a special place in the European culture, and thanked the Azerbaijani side for its support for conducting the event.
Azerbaijani Ambassador Fuad Iskandarov in his speech spoke in detail about the history of Azerbaijan and its modern development. He stressed the importance of naming a street after the Baku city and opening a plank of Baku and mentioned the readiness to expand partnerships with Rotterdam. The Ambassador said that according to the decision of the relevant state agencies of Azerbaijan, in connection with naming a street after the Rotterdam city in Lokbatan settlement of Garadagh district, where a new seaport is under construction together with Dutch companies, a ceremony is scheduled to be conducted for this event.
The Mayor of Rotterdam Ahmed Abutaleb praised the event as historic. On behalf of the residents of Rotterdam, he thanked the Azerbaijani side for the plank and said that he is interested in close cooperation of Baku with Rotterdam and that he would like to personally attend the opening ceremony of Rotterdam street in Baku.

After the official speeches, the Ambassador and Mayor of together with opened the inquiry plank.
