An international expedition "In the wake of glaciers - Kavkasioni 2011" will be held in the coming days in a highland region of Svaneti (Western Georgia), which will be headed by Italian researchers. The expedition aims at setting the size of glaciers and taking their photos.
The project under the patronage of the Italian Foreign Ministry is implemented by non-profit Italian organization "Makromikro," the Italian Embassy in Georgia told Trend.
It aims to study the effect of climate change on the planet's most important glaciers. Researchers are accompanied by a shooting team that will shoot a documentary.
"We will collect data that is comparable with data collected by researchers in late 19th - early 20th centuries, which is important to learn impact of climate change on glaciers," project author Fabiano Ventura said.
