The organizers' decision to hold a forum on humanitarian affairs is worthy of the highest praise, rector of the Moscow State University Victor Sadovnichy said.

"This is one of the most important aspects of the modern world," Sadovnichy said at the opening of the International Humanitarian Forum "21st Century: Hopes and Challenges" in Baku on Monday. "It is important to use all modern achievements for welfare, rather than for evil."

He said that society and politics require new humanitarian instruments.

"Today, the technocratic approach dominates the humanitarian one," he said. These issues will be discussed at the forum."

He said that Azerbaijan and Russia are united by great relations. There are many examples of brilliant humanitarian cooperation, including in the educational sphere."A good example of fruitful cooperation is the activity of a branch of the Moscow State University in Baku," he said.

A branch of Moscow State University was founded in Baku by the Azerbaijani President's decree in January 2008.
