The bones of giant sea creatures that lived in Azerbaijan a million years ago were discovered by the Geology Institute of the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) during research in the Perekishkul settlement.
The research in this area has been conducted for five years. The remains are being analyzed.
Details will be announced after the research is completed. This work is headed by Director of the Museum of Natural History of the Geology Institute, Doctor of Philosophy in Biology Tariel Heybatov.
The remains of prehistoric marine animals were found in Azerbaijan in the second half of 19th century. They were described by many scholars. However, the research in this area was practically suspended in early 1980s and until 2006.
