In Azerbaijan by 51 pardon orders 5,376 people were released, Ombudsman Elmira Suleymanova said on Friday.
Over 10 years of the activities of the Ombudsman's office 367 people based on petitions of this body were released, Suleymanova said. From the 62 people pardoned on Thursday, 16 were released on petitions of the Ombudsman.
The execution of the pardon order signed on Thursday by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev ended today.
In connection with the Novruz holiday President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev signed on Thursday an order pardoning 62 prisoners. According to the order, 55 were pardoned from imprisonment, one person - corrective labor, 6 people - penalty in the form of a fine.
Among those pardoned are foreign citizens.
