Azerbaijan, Baku, March 26 / Trend I.Isabalayeva, K.Zarbaliyeva /

As a result of the landslide at the Agsu pass, the traffic on the Ismayilli-Agsu road has been temporarily restricted, head of the Main Department of Traffic Police of Azerbaijan Kamran Aliyev told Trend on Monday.

The Department recommends that drivers use alternative roads such as the Muganli-Ismayilli and Baku-Gazakh routes passing through Kurdamir.

Restricting traffic on the road will be in place until the end of reconstruction.

As a result of the landslide at the Agsu pass, traffic at some sections of arterial highway Baku-Shamakhi-Yevlakh has been hampered, chief engineer of the team from the Hydrogeology and Engineering Geology unit of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources (MENR) Shaig Niftiyev told Trend on Monday.

He said the road became much narrower at some sections and restoration work is in progress.

If the intensity of the landslide continues it is expected that traffic problems will occur in three or four sections of the road, said the engineer.

Niftiev noted how landslides at the Agsu pass have now intensified and practically all areas are active. He said it's too late to carry out any work on the actual pass.

In order to implement protective measures on a fairly large scale are needed with precision engineering and geological work carried out. This requires a lot of time, say at least one year. Measures to protect the area will also be identified in these studies.
