The most popular names given to children born this year are the names of the Prophet and the Imams.
Newborn boys have been often called Yusif this year, the Justice Ministry told Trend today. About 146 boys were named Yusif. About 4,011 boys were named Yusif in 2011, but in 2010 - 2,956 boys.
About 134 boys were named Huseyn, 122 boys - Ali, 88 boys - Mohammed and 74 boys - Omar.
About 66 boys were named Murad, 66 boys - Ayhan, 52 boys - Farid, 50 boys - Tunar and 46 boys - Nihat. The names Ulvi, Subhan, Vagif, Vusal, Ruslan, Malik, Azer and Royal are also popular.
Nuray was a popular name among girls born this year. About 142 girls were named Nuray. About 3,497 were named Nuray last year and 3,010 girls in 2010.
About 128 girls were named Zahra, 118 girls - Fatima, 98 girls - Ayan, 66 girls - Fidan, 62 girls - Leyla, 59 girls - Zaynab, 55 girls - Khadija, 50 girls - Nazrin.
Jala, Aygun, Sona, Nazli, Arzu and Peri are among the less popular names.
