Some 526 people were killed and 6638 injured in the result of 4486 car accidents occurred in 2011. It is stated in the study of information-analytical department of Georgian Interior Ministry, which was presented on Tuesday.
In 278 cases the cause of accident was alcohol, which killed 30 people and injured - 439, and in 1311 cases the cause of accident was speeding which killed 156, injured 1870 people.
Most of the killed - aged 41 to 60 years, and the greatest number of injured - aged 26 to 40 years.
The greatest number of accidents per 10 000 inhabitants accounts for the territory of Tbilisi / Mtskheta-Mtianeti (16.2), the least - Imereti / Racha / Guria. The greatest number of fatalities per 10,000 residents in a road accident is recorded in the Shida Kartli and Samtskhe-Javakheti (1.5), the least - in Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti (0.7), the largest number of injured to 10 000 inhabitants at the Tbilisi / Mtskheta-Mtianeti (22.7), the least - Imereti / Racha / Guria (8.2).
The most critical period of the accident is the time from July to September, mainly due to the holiday season.
