The earthquakes which occurred in Sheki and Lankaran regions must be considered as ordinary seismological phenomena, head of the seismology and geodynamics department of the National Seismological Service Center of the National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) Tahir Mammadov told Trend today.
He said that these earthquakes are related to tectonic processes. The areas, where the earthquake occurred, are considered as active zones from the seismic point of view.
"Therefore, these earthquakes must be considered as normal," he said. "We know that an earthquake may occur in these areas. The earthquakes measure 4 on the Richter scale. These earthquakes are not considered as strong."
The earthquakes occurred in Azerbaijani Sheki and Lankaran regions on Monday. The earthquake measuring 4 occurred in Lankaran region. The earthquake measuring 5 occurred in the epicenter of Sheki region. The earthquake measuring 3-4 occurred in nearby settlements.
