Azerbaijan, Baku, July 4 /Trend E.Mehdiyev/

Azerbaijanis arrested in Iran are innocent, chairman of the State Committee for Diaspora, Nazim Ibragimov said.

"The Azerbaijani government is concerned by any problem that an Azerbaijani citizen can face abroad. The state structures are seriously engaged in this question. Representatives of the Azerbaijani youths arrested in Iran say they are innocent and should be released," he told journalists on Thursday.

All of the Azerbaijani diaspora organisations are responding to every step taken by Iran against Azerbaijan, Ibragimov said.

"We will not allow any state to interfere in the internal affairs of Azerbaijan," Ibragimov said.

Two Azerbaijani citizens, Farid Huseyn and Shahriyar Hajizade, have been missing in Iran since May 2. Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry has sent five notes to Iran's Foreign Ministry demanding clarification of the situation with the two missing men.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry confirmed the arrest of two Azerbaijani citizens. According to its response to Azerbaijan's note, two Azerbaijani citizens are accused of attempting to commit a crime.

They are charged for spying.
