Azerbaijan, Baku, July 13 / Trend, A. Hasanov /
A social support fund will be established in Azerbaijan, the main thrust being to focus on supporting low-income groups of the population, Azerbaijani Labour and Social Protection Minister Fizuli Alekberov made the announcement whilst addressing an enlarged board meeting on the results of the first half of 2012 on Friday.
"This group of the population will be able to receive loans from the fund to create small businesses instead of targeted state social assistance," Alekberov said.
According to Alekperov, the fund will be created out of public funds, but they will be intended for lending. Accordingly these funds, in contrast to social assistance, will have to be returned, he said.
