The İnternational Dialogue for Environmental Action campaign (IDEA) launched by the vice-president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva on July 12, 2011 has successfully completed an environmental education project at national level 'IDEA for the sake of a green Azerbaijan'.
The project was launched on Sept. 24. It has been implemented for four weeks in the four regions of the country, coordinator of the project 'For the sake of a green Azerbaijan', Surhay Novruzov said at an event organised at the press centre of Trend news agency today.
"As was planned, the training on environmental topics was held every week in five regions," he said. "In total, the sessions were held in 40 schools in 20 regions and towns in Azerbaijan."
He added that the trainers began their work at secondary schools in the Shamakhi region and completed the project in Shirvan.
"Our trainers presented booklets, pens, copybooks and other things in each school," he said. "The audience consisted of over 7500 pupils. The pupils were active at the presentations, held at schools.
"While using interactive games, the trainers tried to expand their knowledge in topics related to the forest, water and waste. The main environmental issues and topics concerning humanity were discussed at 10 schools in the western region during the second week where workshops were held.
"The pupils of the sixth, seventh and eighth forms attended. Low lying areas were discussed during the third week. Besides the discussed topics, our volunteer trainers conducted a survey among the pupils on local environmental problems in the regions."
He stressed that IDEA campaign volunteers set up some interesting activities in the Azerbaijani southern region last week. They met with young people interested in environmental issues of the region.
The purpose of the project is to arouse secondary school pupils' interest in the environment and to use this knowledge, IDEA campaign project Ramiz Babayev said at a press-conference.
"Pupils will study at universities and become qualified professionals in the future," he said. "Therefore, it is important to enlighten people about ecology from childhood."
He added that the software for mobile phones is being prepared for wide dissemination of IDEA educational activities.
At the end of the 'For the sake of a green Azerbaijan' project, activists received gifts.
It should be mentioned that at present, IDEA has representative offices in Moscow and Vilnius. It is planned to open an office in Istanbul in the near future.
