MP: Some religious groups collect information about situation in Azerbaijan

The religious groups with funds try to attract poor people into their ranks in Azerbaijan under the guise of humanitarian aid, director of the Institute for Human Rights of the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences, MP Ayten Mustafayeva said at the international conference ‘Religion and Freedom of Conscience: legal, political and social aspects’ today.

The religious groups with funds try to attract poor people into their ranks in Azerbaijan under the guise of humanitarian aid, director of the Institute for Human Rights of the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences, MP Ayten Mustafayeva said at the international conference 'Religion and Freedom of Conscience: legal, political and social aspects' today.

"Hundreds of religious groups have been registered in Azerbaijan," she said. "There are peaceful and harmless groups among them. But some of them pose a serious threat to national interests and security."

Under the guise of religious activities, the representatives of foreign bodies establish their offices in Azerbaijan, which collect various kinds of information about political, military and economic situation in Azerbaijan.

She urged the Azerbaijani relevant bodies to thoroughly consider the activity of these bodies taking into account their potential danger.
