Deputy Culture and Tourism Minister Nazim Samadov was in Izmir (Turkey) on March 26-27 to participate in the 55th session of the World Tourism Organization (WTO) and the seminar on "Tourism at World Heritage Sites: Challenges and Opportunities", the ministry's press service said on Thursday.

During his speech at the seminar, Samedov briefed the participants on the work undertaken by the Ministry to develop tourism opportunities and cultural heritage of Azerbaijan. In addition, the Azerbaijani delegation proposed to hold a regular meeting of the European Commission of the WTO in 2014 in Baku.

During the visit, Samedov met with the WTO Secretary General Taleb Rifai. The sides discussed further expansion of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the WTO and the implementation of several projects. Samedov expressed the appreciation to Taleb Rifai for assistance shown by the WTO to Azerbaijan in the preparation of the draft law 'On Tourism'.

Baku will host a meeting of the working group for the WTO project 'Silk Road' scheduled for April 22-23 and the workshop for the CIS countries and Georgia on tourism statistics on June 10-12.
