The national holiday of Hungary - the Independence Day was celebrated in Baku, Azerbaijan on Oct. 20.

The Hungarian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Zsolt Chutora said the Independence Day is a very important national holiday for Hungarians.

"On this important day for us, we have brought together our close friends," the diplomat said.

The Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Mahmud Mammadguliyev, speaking on behalf of the Azerbaijani government, congratulated the Hungarian people on this holiday and wished them peace and stability.

"Azerbaijan and Hungary are strategic partners, and the both countries' leaders support the development of relations," he said.

Noting the important role of Hungary in the EU, the deputy minister expressed hope that Hungary will support Azerbaijan in its integration to this organization.

During the event, the Head of the Protocol Service of Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Parvin Mirzazadeh and Azerbaijani businessman Nazim Agamaliyev were awarded orders of Hungary on behalf of the country's president for their contributions to development of ties between Azerbaijan and Hungary.
